This Mansion House is situated in the Cathcart area of Glasgow. It is said to be one of the Scottish architect Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson’s finest works.

There is ongoing conservation work being done on Holmwood House, revealing much of the original decorations by Thomson.

Alexander "Greek" Thomson was born on the 9th April 1817, and died 22nd March 1875. He was a Scottish Architect known for using new technologies, and building environmentally friendly buildings.

Thomson produced Villas, a Castle, Urbane Terraces, Commercial Warehouses, Tenements, and three Churches such as: Caledonia Road Free Church, Queen's Park United Presbyterian Church, and St Vincent Street Church. His Villas were normally in the Grecian style, leading to his nickname: "Greek" Thomson.
